i met a middle aged woman with a husband, 3-year-old son and a newly acquired business. the couple recently retired from a very profitable company they owned, at which point the wife declared she wasn’t ready to stop working. she bought a franchise in home care agency knowing nothing about the business and alas, our paths crossed.
as for the 3-year-old, he was unplanned to say the least. her husband’s cousin found himself in trouble with a lady friend, a lot of drugs and a little boy. rather than continue watching the child live with his parents mistakes, the couple adopted him!
now this is a child who was born addicted to drugs and has since suffered from all sorts of emotional issues. this is also a couple on the cusp of beginning the post hustle and bustle, twilight years of their lives with adult children of their own.
talk about taking on a challenge and making it work. while she seems exhausted, she swears that the new addition to her family is the best thing that ever happened to them.
